Safety Tips

When getting your child ready for school it is important to be ready for the bus 5 minutes before the time that is given. We always strive to have the bus at your house at the designated time. We do have occasions where the bus will be early or late. Being ready will help relieve the stress that can rise from the situation.

gallery 188094 1211555473Parents should plan on being at home 5 to 10 minutes before the scheduled bus drop off. Several things can happen that can make the bus early for drop off. There can be several students who do not ride home so it can speed up the time for a student’s bus drop off.

You or a caregiver should be at the bus stop or at home when your child gets off the bus. If that’s not possible, make sure your child knows exactly what to do– continue straight home, wait for you, call someone, go to a neighbor’s house, or whatever you've arranged beforehand. If you are running late; Call school or transportation.

And once again, be sure your children understand to whom they should and shouldn’t talk to when they’re on their own.

Clothing Can Get Caught:  Jacket and sweatshirt drawstrings, backpack straps, scarves and loose clothing may get caught on the bus handrail or door. This is not only a danger while getting on or off the bus, but could happen any place on the bus.

Bus Expectations

At Richoand-Bean Blossom Schools, the bus is considered an extension of the classroom and school facility. Students are expected to extend the same conduct on the bus as they do in the school facility and the classroom. Here are a few safety tips so all students and drivers may have a safe trip to and from school.

  1. Be on time for the bus. Arrive at your pick-up location at least 5-10 minutes before the expected pick-up time.
  2. Never run to or from the bus.
  3. Be alert and stand back from the curb.
  4. Don’t yell or shout.
  5. Stay in your seat. Keep legs, feet, and backpacks out of the aisle so the driver may see out of the rear windows.
  6. Always obey the driver's requests. They need to focus on the road and need your help.
  7. Keep your hands, feet, and objects to yourself. Don’t push or shove.
  8. Wait for the driver’s signal before crossing.
  9. Always cross at least 12 feet in front of the bus.
  10. Never crawl under a school bus.
