SES Raises Money for Hurricane Relief Efforts

SES Raises Money for Hurricane Relief Efforts
When the hurricanes hit the South, our SES Student Ambassadors wanted to do something to help.  Students and staff spent the week of September 11th participating in theme days to raise money for the American Red Cross to help support the relief efforts of the recent hurricanes.  Students and staff brought in pennies on Monday, nickels on Tuesday... and dollars on Friday while dressing up in fun attire like Crazy Sock Day, Crazy Hair Day, SES Day, etc.  When the final penny was placed in the bucket, Stinesville Elementary collected $1,051.54.  We are proud of our community and their ability to come together to help those in need.

Family Media Agreements

Where does technology fit into your child's education? We likely each have our own opinions on this matter, so where do you strike the balance?  There's no shortage of apps, websites and games that claim to be educational. Whether it's improving vocabulary or teaching critical thinking skills, there are lots of fun digital activities for kids.

To kick off the 2017 Week of Digital Citizenship, first watch the video below to find out what's really best for education-related technology.  THEN, check out our STEAM Resources page for Common Sense Media's Family Media Agreement forms!  Whether your child is just learning to use a technology device as a first grader, or they're introducing you to new apps and sites daily as a high school student, there's an agreement here for you! Have the tough conversations, set the expectations and ensure that your child is a respectful and responsible digital citizen in exchange for their (intentional and responsible) use of those highly-hicovetted devices!

Making Solar Memories

Making Solar Memories
On August 21st, SES students and staff had the opportunity to go outside to experience 93% of the full solar eclipse.  The peak time of the eclipse occurred at 2:24pm.  RBBCSC provided all students and staff with protective glasses, compliant with safety standards, in order to maximize this rare educational opportunity in a safe manner.

In the days leading up to the viewing, classes engaged in a variety of research, technology integration, and hands-on activities to build a strong foundation about solar eclipses.

Thank you to our central office administration for purchasing the protective glasses which allowed us to experience this event. This was definitely a memory that our students and staff will remember for years to come.
