Students will have the chance to make and write books, learn from a professional illustrator, see the safety equipment of a real Otis Elevator field specialist and participate in some impromptu drama. If you would like to volunteer for this event, please let the office know. You will also have 2 chances to see a performance of the story (May 7th at 7 PM and May 9th at 2 PM) here at EPS, and the tickets are $2 each. Some of you who bring your children to school no doubt noticed that our flags are at half-mast today. This is in accordance with an order from Governor Mike Pence in response to events over the weekend. The following is a portion of the press release issued by the Governor’s Office yesterday (11-16-14):
“”Abdul-Rahman Kassig was one of us and he was the best of us. He was a lifelong Hoosier who was admired by all as a loving son, a dedicated student, an Army Ranger, and a compassionate humanitarian who risked his life to render medical aid to refugees in Syria and Lebanon. Karen and I offer our deepest condolences and prayers for this courageous young man, his loving family and friends during this time of heartbreak and loss. Indiana will never forget the service, compassion and sacrifice of Abdul-Rahman (Peter) Kassig.’”
Governor Pence also declared an official period of mourning to begin on sunrise Monday and ordered that flags be lowered at state buildings all across Indiana to mark this tragic murder.
