Abraham Lincoln Visit

b2ap3_thumbnail_Lincoln.jpgEJHS 8th graders were privileged to have Abraham Lincoln visit the school on Tuesday, April 22nd. Impersonator Dean Dorrell kicked off our Civil War unit by giving a 45 minute presentation as Honest Abe. Mr. Dorrell shares at several schools in the state and works in the summers at Lincoln State Park. He is the main "star" of the musical at Lincoln Amphitheatre called "Lincoln: A Pioneer Tale" that runs June-July.

Lincoln started with his first Inaugural Address and shared stories and speeches from both terms of his presidency. The focus of the day was the Civil War. Lincoln quoted the Gettysburg Address, read the Emancipation Proclamation, talked about his views of slavery, all while weaving "tales" throughout to help explain his points. Lincoln then answered questions that mainly focused on his childhood and life in Indiana.

It was great to have such a distinguished visitor!

The students in Mrs. Harper’s language arts classes have taken on the task of producing a student created online magazine featuring the heart and soul of our community. The Ellettsville Chamber of Commerce supported this effort by visiting the students and offering feedback to them about their work. The Chamber will publish the magazine on their website to display the appeal of our town. Students worked collaboratively to survey, interview, photograph, draft, revise, edit, and design the layout for their own articles and the magazine as a whole.
