Harmony 3 Family Access

Announcing the new Harmony 3 Family Access for Parents and Students!

We are switching our current Harmony Parent/Student portal to the New Harmony 3 Family Access and all parents should have received an email with the link to log in, as well as instructions for the setup. Everyone needs to register with the new credentials, as we will eventually be turning off the current version of the program.

One of the advantages of the new Harmony 3 Family Access is that it allows parents and students to have separate accounts with their own user names and passwords to access information as well as set notifications. Because the accounts are separate, students will not be able to make changes to any of the settings made by parents.

In the new program you will be able add all your students into one login and to see the following:

Progress Reports

Attendance
Discipline
Homework Agenda
Online Payments
Push Notification

The new site link is:

https://harmony.rbbcsc.k12.in.us/familyaccess.nsf/hello.xsp

The link is also posted on the corporation as well as each building website.

We hope you enjoy the features of the new site.

CHOICES

Middle school students are faced with many choices everyday… Should I get out of bed today? What should I wear? Will I be nice to my friends? How hard am I going to work? Who will I sit with at lunch? Will this be a good day? Will I try my hardest today? Should I take Algebra? What do I want to be when I grow up? Should I try out for basketball? I am embarrassed, what will I do? Everybody is making fun of my shoes, what should I do?Facing these choices can be overwhelming, frustrating, and distracting to students. Making bad choices can create barriers that block learning and progress at school. Being able to make sound choices is a skill that students need to acquire in order to help ensure successful, productive days and greater achievement At Edgewood Junior High School, the counseling department is dedicated to helping students learn how to make sound choices in the areas of academics, careers, and personal/social issues. Through individual counseling, group counseling and classroom guidance lessons, students will be led to discover strategies for maneuvering through situations of choice and the power they have through making sound choices.- A. Colts with Character

This year Edgewood Junior High adopted the Colts with Character program. Each month, the entire school population focuses on three defined “Lifelines,” Each one instilling a quality or trait that each student should practice and demonstrate in their pursuit of becoming a valuable member of society.

Anytime a teacher or staff member sees a student displaying one of our lifelines, they receive a ticket to turn into the guidance office. Twice a month two names will be drawn per grade level and the students will be called down to the office for their prize. The non-winning tickets will be dumped into a larger container for some school wide drawings at the end of each semester.

Previous lifelines we’ve had this year have been:

Integrity- To tell the truth and do what is right even when no one is looking.

Organization- To plan, arrange and keep things in order.

Responsibility- To be accountable for your actions.

Effort- To work hard.

Empathy- To understand and experience the feelings of others.

Active listening- To use your ears, eyes, heart and undivided attention when needed.

For the month of November we will be focusing on Gratitude, Problem solving and manners. Gratitude means to be thankful, Problem Solving is to create solutions, and Manners is using proper social skills in different situations. Gratitude and Manners are especially timely during this time of year with Thanksgiving right around the corner and being good at solving problems is useful at all points and times in school and in life.

6th Grade Lady Colts Sponsor Food Drive

b2ap3_thumbnail_20141211_165549.jpg
The 6th Grade Lady Colts helped out some RBB families in need this holiday season. At one home game this year, admission to the public was the donation of a non-perishable food item. Next the Lady Colts hosted a 3 on 3 tournament to raise money. The money raised was used to purchase four shopping carts of food and supplies. The girls loved working together and shopping for food items for those in need this year.

Colts Cash Economy

EJHS Colts Cash Economy

Dear Parents/Guardian,

At this point in the school year, you should have seen some “Colts Cash” coming home with your child. EJHS has a school wide Colts Cash Economy again this year. We have decided to use this as a way to motivate students and also to increase real life money situations. Students will earn “Colts Cash” throughout the year for showing excellent behavior, acts of kindness, work ethic, and earning grades. Students can use this money to purchase items throughout the year, such as hall passes, school supplies, iPad charging, etc. and they can save the money for an auction at the end of each nine-week period. Just like the use of normal hall passes, if there is an emergency (restroom issue, counseling need, etc.), the student would not need to have the cash in order to leave the room. The staff at EJHS is very excited about the countless ways we can use this economy. Already, the students have used the economy to show their strength of character. Many students in the past few days have stopped by the office to turn in Colts Cash bills they have found in the hallway. We are so proud of our students for choosing to do the right thing, even when no one is looking!

WE NEED YOUR HELP WITH DONATIONS

We are looking for items to be auctioned off at the end of the nine week period and everyday items that can be used in individual classrooms. The following is a list of example items: cans/bottles of soda, small bags of chips, pencils, small gift cards, sports gear (footballs, basketballs, etc.), games, or anything else that might be of interest to junior high students. There will be a box in the front office, where you can place these items at any point in the year.

Thank you for your continued support! Looking forward to a great year!

Sincerely,

The EJHS Staff

Abraham Lincoln Visit

b2ap3_thumbnail_Lincoln.jpgEJHS 8th graders were privileged to have Abraham Lincoln visit the school on Tuesday, April 22nd. Impersonator Dean Dorrell kicked off our Civil War unit by giving a 45 minute presentation as Honest Abe. Mr. Dorrell shares at several schools in the state and works in the summers at Lincoln State Park. He is the main "star" of the musical at Lincoln Amphitheatre called "Lincoln: A Pioneer Tale" that runs June-July.

Lincoln started with his first Inaugural Address and shared stories and speeches from both terms of his presidency. The focus of the day was the Civil War. Lincoln quoted the Gettysburg Address, read the Emancipation Proclamation, talked about his views of slavery, all while weaving "tales" throughout to help explain his points. Lincoln then answered questions that mainly focused on his childhood and life in Indiana.

It was great to have such a distinguished visitor!

Celebrating Pi Day

Friday, March 14th is Pi Day! EJHS students are celebrating by answering trivia questions each day related to pi. The winner each day will receive an oatmeal creme pie. Each student will also write one of the digits of pi on a 3x5 index card and then we will string them around the hall. This will be more than 600 digits! Some of the teachers will be doing other special things in their classes like measuring and calculating pi, finding where their birthday occurs in the digits of pi, and reading stories about pi. What will you do to celebrate pi?
