EIS Math/Science Night

image

The third graders at E.I.S., as well as the fourth and fifth grade students, recently participated in the Science Fair at the annual Math/Science Night. Students, and their supportive parents and families, worked very hard on the exhibited scientific method or inquiry projects. Students shared their knowledge with their classmates through oral presentations in class and then were given the opportunity to look at all of the wonderful projects on Thursday, April 24th, from 6:00-8:00pm. Many other exhibits and demonstrations were also available for students and families to see during the program, which was made possible through the efforts of the P.T.O., admininstrators, and Mrs. DeMoss, a fourth grade tacher.

Fourth Grade Visit to State House

image
On Thursday, March 27th, the fourth grade classes at EIS traveled to Indianapolis, touring the Indiana State House. While at the State House, students sat in the rotunda and learned more about the history and architecture of the building from state house docents. While touring the multiple levels of the spacious building, students and chaperones were invited into several of the state offices and the Indiana State Supreme Courtroom. Students were able to sit in the chairs of Indiana’s state senators and representatives, while docents explained the legislative process and history of the chambers themselves. Between rain showers, several classes were able to walk the downtown canal area, including a walk around the Indiana State Museum to find the 92 pieces of art that represent each of Indiana’s 92 counties. It was a memorable trip for all EIS fourth graders and chaperones.

Third Grade RCC

Edgewood Intermediate School's third graders have spent the last five weeks learning about various careers and thinking about these questions and many others during RCC, Responsible Choices Club, which is held on Fridays. Several of the students' parents volunteered to come in and share their time and talk about their current jobs. Many parents brought in visual aids to help make the learning "come alive" for the children. The students also enjoyed learning and hearing about the work of a former Edgewood graduate who is now pursuing her master's/doctorate in biological anthropology. The third grade staff is very appreciative of the many parents who were able to make this traditional event another yearly success.
